sr5 coupe breaks? help!!!!
i recently bought a sr5 coupe the breaks are terrible.

its takes for ever to slow down, the pedle goes all the way to the floor.
wen i pump the pedle the idle goes up, idk if thats anything.
the bleeder bolts are broke off, theres only a little chunk left, idk how to take the broken piece out to replace them
the ebrake barely works, the car will still roll even if the ebrakes up.

please let me know wat i need to do to fix my breaks, winters coming up and i need some breaks thanks

Sounds like you need to do basicly everything. Smile

I´d try to get the broken bleeder out by welding a nut on it. they cost like 5€ each new.

How are the pads, discs? Need to change them too?

Id change them, replace the fluid and give it a [u]proper bleed and adjust the e-brake. (There is a good how to in the FAQ) Does an SR5 have drums at the back? (allways confused with USDM)

edit: about the idle raise, sounds like the diaphram in you brakebooster is broken...

Try this first:
engine turned off, pump until you get a hard pedal feeling, turn the engine on while staying on the brake pedal.
The moment the engine starts does the pedal go down a little (~10mm)

If not there is a good chance you brakeboster isn´t working, without it the brake power is veeery poor and you really need to step on it ro see any results.

If you need to ask you're better off going to a garage (I know that doesnt sound very friendly.. but you dont want to take chances with brakes). Forget about the ebrake for a moment and concentrate on getting the rest fixed.
If you can find them cheap, replacement brake calipers might be a good idea instead of messing around with the old ones. You either have air in the brake system or a faulty master cylinder, either way: not good. Fix the calipers, refill the system with fresh brake fluid and if you cant get it right replace the master cylinder too.

Listen to the man above, really sounds like you´re missing the point and never worked on a brake system before... Therefore its better to see a garage.

For your own safety!

As for the headlight covers, I don´t do them cause there are only very few Truenos in Europe, so it´s not worth the effort. I´m pretty sure there is a company in the US who does them.

SR5 got drum brakes. If the e-brake doesn't work properly it could very well mean your pistons are leaking and the drums are covered in brake fluid and it won't do much stopping then. Tongue

Had the same with the Carina this summer and realized how much work your rear brakes actually still do when I got the brakes cleaned and rebuild. Big Grin

sr5 coupe breaks? help!!!!
first off my car idles at about 500 rpm is that normal.
wen i tap the gas pedle it goes up to about 1100 rpm and stays there for a sec then drops back down.
wen i push in my breaks to slow down the it almost dies.
wen im at a stop and push in my breaks repeatidly the idle goes up.

I'm not sure but I don't think it's normal. I had this problem a while back, it dropped to around 600 when it was in stationary too long. A quick tap to the gas would fix the problem. I remember after driving for 2.5 hours on a hot day it dropped to 500 whilst standing still, and then stalled.

Normal is around 750 - 800 I guess. 500 idle seems close to stalling
