Engine & ECU Q's
Hey everyone, Im new to the AE86 boards. I am interested in getting an AE86 and had a few questions that maybe you all could help me with. I searched a few forums but havent come up with some concrete info that could help solve my questions. I think Club4AG is down because I cant get on their forums and I guess this would be the next best place to get help.
I am stuck deciding if I should get the 16v or 20v engine. I am going boost, but what would be the best for performance and what would give the least amount of trouble to drop in. I was also looking at a 3SGTE since I read that a few people would put them in. Is that a hard swap? Any issues? My other concern is engine management. I like the AEM EMS (i've had a turbo integra with it and currently an Evo with it). Very good units, but they dont make them for the AE86. I read a little on Megasquirt, but its looks wierd to me.... All your input and info will be greatly appreciated and I hope you can help out a new fellow member.....thanks! |

Club4ag had a servercrash and since it is out anyway they are rebuilding the forum with a newer version as well. Please read these topics first: Swaps: http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic.php?t=4012 http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic.php?t=3852 3SGTE: http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic.php?t=3973 I think it might be worth putting these links in the tech faq as well 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

Engine & ECU Q's
3S-GTE is a difficult swap. Unless you got the RWD carina diesels in the states, but my guess is no. SR20DET or CA18DET are the same difficulty swap wise, but already come with a transmission that will sustain the hp levels you are looking for. T50 transmissions have been known to grenade, so most people mate the 3S to a W series transmission from a supra or truck.
Don't understand your question about the ECU's..you want a plug and play system? AEM is no problem, just have to wire it in and configure it..nice system too. A wheel to steer the front of the car A pedal to steer the rear |
