Gearbox Speedometer Driven & Drive Gear

Hi guys!

I've recently disassembled my gearbox to repair some synchros and as I have the 4.778 ring and pinion, I may want to change the gearbox's speedometer driven and drive gear to get the dashboard to read speed correctly.

I've got 19 teeth driven gear and 5 drive gear. 5:19 = 3.8

Stock final drive is 4.3 and mine is 4.778. 4.778:4.3 makes for a difference of 11%. My maths tell me I need to go from 5:19 to 5:21.

I found in the internet that there are many drive and driven gears.

the available drive gears are :
33481-12030 N=5
33481-14040 N=6

Driven gears:
33403-19135 N=19
33403-19155 N=20
33403-19165 N=21
33403-19175 N=22

My doubt is if the 21 teeth driven gear will match the 5 teeth drive gear.

I know from toyodiy.com that the AE71 uses the 21 driven gear and 6 drive gear.

Has anyone tried this already?

Hi mate,

I have recently rebuilt my gearbox and changed the final drive to 4.778:1 as well, so I tried 21 teeth driven on the stock 5 teeth drive gear and it fits and rotates properly.

Looks like 22/5 would be what you want.

Interesting!! I had mine changed last summer, and the speedometer was way of, more than 11%... more like 20% :-(
