is it bad that i had to google that and now i wished i didn't Tongue

but good work on your Corosie! If you keep up your 'fix 2 holes a day' rule you'll get there. I talked about this with my dad, who saw your welding on your roof and he said you'll be fine with the quality work you allready did so far!

A story in pictures:

Thought I found 2 holes last week, it turned out to be one whopper:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Drilled off the outrigger, the white stuff is phosphorous acid doing it's job.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Now we get a clear view of the inner sill.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Luckily, all was well inside on this end.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Thomas (the Doctor) was kind enough to lend a hand with the cleaning process. Found another hole, and a bunch of things that were fucked up by the guy I was paying to do my welding work before...oh well. F.U. Bert.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Fabbed me up a plate for the sill.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Clamp weld, rinse, repeat.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Then it's on to making a bit for the floor.. using a dutch seasonal favorite as template material.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Bish bash bosh, & presto:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Then fill in the wheelwell plating to finish things off.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Zink-sprayed it in preparation for next week when the outrigger is going back on.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

It needed some derusting and some minor welding, but it was too late to continue working.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Inside was sprayed with rust converter to keep rust away untill I'm finished with welding.
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

There you go.. another 10 hours of hard work.. Glad I'm not in the restoration business... I cant imagine having to do this much faster.

Another hole patched up

First I had to finish off last weeks work:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Then tackled another spot that has been an eyesore for a while...
It was just a tiny hole with a lot of surface rust, but that's usually a
bad sign. It certainly proved to be:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Exploratory incision in place, bathed it in acid to remove any leftover
surface rust.

Officially bodged:

I kinda strayed from my fix it factory style approach here because the multilayer stuff was a bit complicated, and the 4cm's of overlap where
probably the reason things got so ugly under there in the first place.
Will need to compensate for the slight loss in rigidity with some added strengthening though.

Didnt have time to tidy up the welding and think of reinforcement since I had to pick the missus up from the airport.

Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done
Another day in the garage passed.. I took up the challenge of the rear inner wheeltubs. What I feared for turned out to be very true: previous welding made working on this neatly damn near impossible.
It was worth doing though since I found tons of rust between the welded sections, and I needed to get the spring perch out anyway to be able to fix the hole in the framerail. Just getting it cleaned up took me a whole day and Im not done yet...

Here's how it began:

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Panhard support opened:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

The offending springperch:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Tools of the trade:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Peepwhole:
[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

Bathed it in acid:

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

[Image: AEU86 AE86 - Ivan's coupe: bodywork is done]

I'm afraid it's never going back to stock ae86 rear suspension.. too much work to get things back in shape and probably too much cost since I will need the spring perches new (if they are at all available).
Will be on the lookout for some escort weld in turrets or just build some myself.
