Problems installing yellow koni's in my TE71 liftback
Hi Guys,
Just managed to get the old shocks apart on , or should I see off, my liftback. I have a nice set of koni's to replace them thanks to Bozu. However, I'm running into fitment issues, though the koni site and all different kinds of places show the correct part number. My issue is as follows, the top nut doesn't fut when the shock is in. Any good calls on a nice way to get stuff fixed? Due to the design of my suspension, I can't drill a hole in the bottom to let the pin on the bottom of the koni's go through, since I think it would hit the nut of my LCA. pics; All help very much appreciated. |

Get rid of the oil seal in the nut you dont need that anymore, if thats not enough, the nut might need machining on a lathe, had to do that before on K sport shocks...
Edit, Does your suspension kit come with a spacer, cause if I rememer correct its not supposed to sit on the adjusting knob! My Konis had a cone spacer making it rest on the body rather then on the adjuster... 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

Does the shock tube fit through the hole? if not, make the hole in the strut cap bigger.
The stub at the bottom of koni shocks is designed for sawing down to size. If the shock sits too high and you have some of that thin stub on the bottom left, you can cut some off it. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

No Spacer in the kit (second hand), and my adjustment is on top, or do you mean the top nut is sitting to high in general?
Good tip about the oil seal, that might go some way. About sitting on the pin, I think I'll make a rubber for this if I can get the nut on the top to fit. |

There is a good 1,5 or 2 cm left (not near the shocks now) and doestn't look touched at all. that would make life a bit easier. I would love to be able to fix it a bit more elegant. |

You gotta cut the sections so it can fit properly in the StruT! |

Sure the strut/insert can go lower if it's got a little thingy on its bottom, but the main things are that that the insert is about level or below the strut's tube and that its gland nut is big enough to fit around the top of the insert, hold it centered inside the tube and tighten down really tight with 1/4-4 threads showing.

i got a different gland nut with my koni's, so i'd say leave the cutting alone and get the gland nut to fit the strut. A correct one is probably hard to find, so i'd say, make your own one fit
