help with tranny
hey im new here... im way over in canada and im wondering if anyone could help me. i just bought myself a very clean 85' AE86 sr5, and its auto single cam, for now im just looking to get a tranny for it and im wonder what i could get one out of to work ? and what id need other then the break and clutch pedel assembly, master cylinder and the lines ? would i need the driveshaft too or would the auto one slide in ?

my main concern is getting one that will fit the 4A without having to run around and find myself a bellhousing anyway thanks in advance for the help. ive searched forever

Difficult to say, I have never seen an automatic european AE86 (maybe banpei's one before it was converted to GTS?).
I'd say find yourself a wrecked 86 somewhere, get the gearbox+bellhousing+driveshaft and pedal assembly. Buy the slave cilinder new if you can..
Another valuable source of info would be the electronic parts catalog (EPC, the official parts catalog toyota use). You can download it, just do a search and you'll find the link(it's in a sticky).

Then you could see pictures and figure out the differences, you could for instance check if the part nr's for the driveshaft are different between auto and manual cars.

I know your canadian (or at least the car is), but the point I tried to make was that we have next to no auto AE86's in europe..Europeans have always prefered manual gearboxes...automatics are for grannies.
