And yes, GOOD LUCK with that endavour, keeping fingers crossed it'll go away with an oil change. Hachi owners have enough strain on them even without internal issues

How exactly does thinner oil help reduce the valve noise? I can imagine it warming up quicker so the sounds dissapear slightly faster, but not reducing it overall?

NoHachi, in hydraulic lifters case the lifters need oil to work (to compensate lash). They start dry (in most cases). Thinner oil=lifters fill faster=start to work sooner.

I understand that part, but people are recommending thinner oil in this case (aka solid lifters), I don't understand how that would work....
Unless it isn't valve sound at all but conrod/main bearings...

Huh, I recommended 10-40 instead of 15-50 too (depends of climate) as GENERAL recommendation.
Gold middle  To detect 100% bearing failure he must remove the engine from car etc - so I proposed most cheapest way to go around the problem (if we presume that problem is oil, filter, valve lash or bearings). If no improvement - I will check th valve lash. Next - bearings change. |

Like i allready said, don't think it are bearingcaps.
Generally you hear em only when the engine is warm and the oil is thin. If it are bearings you should use thicker oil (20W50 orso) to lower down the noise. Or change the bearings offcourse  Never heard worn out bearings? |

I was thinking of 10-40 from the begining but i was afraid of oil consumption on high revs.
What do you think about that. Jamie as for the filter i use the new OEM Toyota filter which is shorter to give immediate oil pressure on start. I'll change oil and come back with comments. Stay tuned

Here i am again
I changed my oil to 20-50W. They told my that i have to use thicker oil with that type of valves and not thinner. I tried 20-50W but no change. Same sound. Going to step 2 I'm gonna adjust my valves
