HI!
I made full service on my 4age with new watherpump, oil etc... I also installed a mocal oil cooler kit with sandwich plate, i connected the stock oil cooler hoses together, to let the oil run back in the engine. Oil pressure was okay, but my engine made strange noises coming from the valve train, yesterday i heard a new sound like tok tok tok, and the engine didnt run on idle, i have to start it again and again. Now the engine is dead, the starter turns but no way to fire on this thing... |

I don't know exactly how you have this thing piped up,
but stock 4AGE oil coolers are a bypass type. Excess oil goes to the cooler when the oil pressure is greater than the relief valve setting. Oil return is from the cooler direct into the sump. If you put a different sandwich plate in there (one that sends ALL the oil to the cooler) and you plumbed the oil return from the cooler into the sump return.... then you would not have any oil going to the engine lube system This would lead to various tapping, knocking, and ultimately, crying sounds But on the bright side, your oil temp would have been 30 or 40 deg lower than before..... My setup looks like this
The red hose is the connection from the stock oil exit and entrance, the green ones are the adaptor plate to the oil cooler. |

Nope, but I dont really see where the "stock oil exit" comes from..
The stock setup has a bypass feed coming out of the sandwich plate under the filter, and an oil return to the oil pan right underneath the filter. You're new setup has a different sandwich plate I guess, so the routing towards the oil cooler should be OK I think. But what have you connected to the old oil return? The only oil exit there is for the pressure sensor AFAIK. Anyway, dont go playing with the engine anymore right now... drain the oil and run a magnet through it.. should give you a clue of what damage has been done. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

I just connected the stock oil exit with the stock oil inlet togther, you see it on the picture...

Dude, all the oil from the pump is directed towards the stock
oil filter. Once filtered, it goes back into the block and lubes all the bearings. If you are allowing a full flow of oil from the original filter location to return directly to the sump, then you have done a bad thing. Your pic shows you have made a loop to the stock sump return. I can't really see how you could do this without using some sort of remote filter adapter and plugging the return port off A photo or a more detailed sketch of the hose arrangement at the stock filter location would help. I see... you mounted the new sandwich plate on top
of the factory one. So, what you did connecting the factory oil supply (to cooler) directly to the factory oil return (to sump) should not be a problem. Oil only flows in this loop when the engine revs and oil pressure are high. The rest of the time there is no flow because the spring-loaded relief valve is closed. Of course, you have to leave the relief valve in place to sustain oil pressure in the engine. You didn't take the valve and spring out did you ?? And the new sandwich plate should not care if the old one is there or not. The only downside is that adding the new cooler and pipework will increase the back pressure on the relief valve, causing it to bypass a bit more oil than before. Again, shouldn't be a problem, as there would still be enough oil pressure/flow to lube the engine. Only a total blockage somewhere in your cooler pipework would stop oil flow to the bearings.
