SPRINGS FOR AE86
EDIT: Lets make this the place to have a proper discussion about springs for our beloved cars. All about prings for non-adjustable setups.

So i have put together a little list, for all the options that i'm aware of (springrates, lowering, prices, availability):

Tanabe GF210 (F:-25mm _ 2.5kg/mm R:-18mm _ 2.7 kg/mm) (cheapest in USA cca 150$; in EU 200 eur+)
APEX (F:-30mm _ +30% R:-30mm _ +30%) (availible in EU cca 150 eur)
EIBACH Sportkit (F:-25mm _ +30% R:-33mm _ +30%) (availible in EU, price in USA cca 180-200 $)
INTRAX (F:-40mm _ +30% R:-40mm _ +30%) (availible in EU, price in USA cca 180-200$
MEGAN Racing (f:-46mm _ +30% r:-43mm _+30%) (availible in USA 120$)
ESPELIR Active Super Down (F:-40mm _ 3.0 kg/mm R:-30mm _ 2.8 kg/mm) (availible in japan 80 eur and on)
RS*R Ti2000 (F: -20-25mm _ 2.63 kg/mm R: -10-15mm _ 2.33 kg/mm) (availible in japan cca. 60 eur and on)

All prices are informative (from online shops and stuff). There are more options (Cobra, TRD ..), so if you know any other with specifications please add..

Your Experiences
Please share your experiences with any springs that you might have had . (but only for non-adjustable setups)

Pictures
Please paste pictures of your car on various springs (all for non adjustable). Measurements of rideheight are welcome naturally. Smile

If this turns out to be a good discussion, maybe we can make a tech faq about springs for the newcomers.

PS: Does anybody know the springrates of the stock/oem units?

Hey Apolan, before we start uploading pictures we should first agree on a universal measure of ride height. Just going with what it says on the box is no good, some springs do not give the indicated drop, others give more, some springs sag after time etc etc. Measuring is Always better then guessing no?
Maybe that something like this should be a sticky too. or in the faq.

In the miata world it is customary to measure rideheight from the hubcenter to the arch lip. This is a preferred measuring point, since you can relate rideheight issues directly to suspension issues like bumpstopcontact etc. Nice, but doesn't work when you install flares or "custom" arches ala VW golf.

I would suggest measuring front and rear rideheight by measuring the distance from the framerail nearest to that wheel to the ground. What I mean by framerail is the long lip running under the sidesills that also contains the jacking points. Measurements of this location should be more or less universal, as long as a car is measured on a relatively flat and horizontal surface (and the rail is more or less intact :-) )

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

NoHachi precisely! I've heard apex's sag over time so i'd like to see the actual pictures of various spring setups.. Measuring would be a fine idea. would be nice to have all of that in one place as well so people can better decide on what type of lowering they would like. hence this post.

There isnt alot of options for lowering your hachi. specially in europe. This would apply to normal-stroke setups. (up to cca 40mm lowering)

Options that i know for longstroke:

Tanabe GF210 (f:-25mm r:-18mm)
APEX (f:-30mm r:-30mm)
EIBACH Sportkit (f:-25mm r:-33mm)
INTRAX (f:-40mm r:-40mm)
ESPELIR (f:-40mm r:-40mm)
MEGAN Racing (f:-46mm r:-43mm)

All of the above are around 30% stiffer than oem units. (around 2.5 kg/mm)
