Did you shear of the key on your crank?
Any damage to the Key grove?
If yes bad times, you need a new crank and key, probably a new pulley.

I had this on my old engine, with a broken keygrove the engine timing was really bad (load change moved the timing gear), and ign-timing was impossible to set right.
I ended up rebuilding the engine... Hurray!
