Howdy,
the new Civic Type R (K20 - also in the JDM Integra Type R) and s2000 (F20) engines are the only ones that spin the right way so they can be longitudinally (unless you build up some weird and whacky transfer box to switch the rotation of the prop). The K20 motor isn't quite as tall as the F20 too which is a bonus when fitting in a hachi - and I believe power can be more easily extracted from this motor (however I can't ever see a need for much more than the F20s standard power output) There is a company that produces a rwd bellhousing for the K20 motor - will try and find the details for you. I have also heard that the mounting points on the block are not especially well suited to long-mount rwd. Here is what one looks like in the back of an elise. hmmm.... exhaust manifold oh - and you may find pricewise that a K20 motor is about similar in cost to the F20 - the reason being people buy up the salvage engines to drop into elises (and westfields/caterhams now the belhousing is available) In fact Mr Max Misawa is doing a K20 swap as we speak I think. Regards Ian. |
