I had to do this on my car, the pulley had worn against the woodruf key and formed a groove so the timing kept changing on the car as you drove. I used an ordinary puller to get it off whilst it was out of the car. And the reason it was out of the car was because i didn't have the time to track down the problem, i just swapped in another engine, only to find out that it was only running on 3 cylinders, and it was then i found the problem !
