4age 16v starting and running problems

I've been having trouble for a while now with my car being hard to start, everytime you start it the timing seems to advance and retard, so you start it first time it runs on 3 cylinders, you turn it off and start it again and it runs slightly better, turn it off start again and it might run perfect

it was always running perfect once it was got going

I thought it was the ecu but I swapped another one in and its the same

anyone seen this before

Have you checked for error codes ?
When you check for error codes you can run the engine with the
check connector shorted, this should lock the ignition timing and at idle it needs to be around 10 degrees BTDC

i don't think this will help as when its running, it runs perfect, its only tryin to start it thats trouble
