4agze --> SuperCharger will not power up/ Boost
hi,
driving a gze for 2,5 years now, but got the problem lately that the SC wont power up/ come in. problem occurred occasionally first, but it is getting worse by the time.. I am even lucky when I got it working now it is a electro-magnetic powered clutch, driven by engine vacuum? but how does it exactly work? I have spend 30 min of trying to find a bad vacuum hose, but with now success. finally the clutched got powered again, and I can see that the clutch itself is OK, and functioning like it should, so I have to look in the "steering side" how does the electromagnetic clutch get his signal??? could someone help me out here? cause I need the boost!! and a second question: what is against a direct and always powered SC? cause you can install a BOV? or am I wrong? regards and thanks for your help Roel Gtsi-R "Trust me, I was an engineer" "straight lines are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers" |

4agze --> SuperCharger will not power up/ Boost
found this info on the board:
Re: 4agze Super Charger Clutch -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A common fault with the 4agze motor is the relay for the clutch that fails, have you followed the wiring and bridged out the clutch to see if it is working? By "manually triggering" the s/c it means to put 12v over the coil to activate the clutch, this will tell u if it is getting a 12v from the s/c relay or not. and also this info: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S/C is self contained, it uses a special oil from toyota, though others use Mobil 1 or other very thin oil in it. It's capacity is 130ml. It seems to simply oil the gears which mesh the rotors together... it's supposed to be clear. but is everyone in agreeance that its cool for me to just weld up the clutch and have the sc running all the time??? will this cause me any long term issues??? other than going through LOTS of petrol... which doesnt bother me.. its only a track car anyway... If it's a track car, there's a good chance that the supercharger is never disengaged, [u:37dd3bf9a9]I think it's 3 or 5 seconds after you lift off before the computer disengages the clutch[/u:37dd3bf9a9], and I doubt you'd get that on the track. Maybe hook a little LED or something up to the trigger for the SC clutch to see how much it's acutally off. Maybe welding it is an option...but if you're going to do that, I'd machine a smaller SC pulley up so you get bigger boost without the problems of a bigger crank pulley... So i can check the puley by manually trigger, and try to find the relay I will update when there is more info! Banpei, thanks! 4agze --> SuperCharger will not power up/ Boost
In my car, next to the computer under the glove box, there is a relay for the supercharger. I can even hear it clicking when its giving the clutch orders. If you undo the connection at the sc clutch you can manually engage the clutch with some wires from battery I think. If your clutch operates under 12v you have something wrong in the circuit I would say...

that was the next place to look for.. because there are no relays in the enginebay..

4agze --> SuperCharger will not power up/ Boost
If you earth the black/yellow wire in the S/C clutch plug the clutch will activate with ignition on, so you could test it that way or add a switch as I wouldn't weld it personally. Pulley bros do smaller fixed pulleys for SC12 so you could gain a bit of boost.
I found the S/C relay behind the LH interior 1/4 panel on one car, but handiest is probably stuffed in by the heater motor. |

Are your rotors black? If not, then youve blown the seal off them and need a new SC!

4agze --> SuperCharger will not power up/ Boost
did some testing..
direct grounded the clutch, --> OK does function. But a direct grounded clutch does not work for driving, the ECU does not like me directly grounding the clutch so it is active all the time.. (even not with the relay removed) the moment that I want to boost, the engine holds back big time, (no fuel of ignition I guess.. QUESTION: anyone an idea why that does not work? I looked up a wiring diagram, It is a relay with a diode? against disturbance I guess Just followed the wires to the relay. and found out where the SC relay is positioned at my car. it is a big one! in a rubber housing and part number 85931 - 12010 ( the guy at toyota said acc to system for my USA GZE it has got to be 85931-30010?) QUESTION, what is the right relay? My neighbor got me a 5 feet hella relays with diode against disturbance, picture like this: exchanged the relay, used: 86 ecu + 85 signal feed from ecu 30 ground 87 switched ground Supercharger.. but.. it did not work.. QUESTION: Is the toyota relay that much different??? QUESTION .. has someone got one of those relays for me? Help me out please... regards Roel Gtsi-R "Trust me, I was an engineer" "straight lines are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers" |

4agze --> SuperCharger will not power up/ Boost
I cant stand it that it does not work..
asked my colleage of the electronic department @ my work for some help, now i at least know the function of the SC relay, in the scedule is also a resistance and a diode in the relay, function of that is to fade out power pikes when locking out. and maybe there is some more electronics in there, what is not to be seen on the scedule. so I definently need a other relay.. and then do some more testing.
