Does anyone know of any distributor relocation kits available? My first choice is to leave the firewall as it is and maintain oem reliability by using the stock ecu.

I just remembered there was another (earlier) kit by SP-TEC. Links to that has dried up, but it seems to be a bit cheaper than the SQ Engineering version.

It was NEVER reliable. The fact the car came with 4 spare COPs probably spoke for itself. It nuked an ECU and Coil/Ignitor pack. The only reliable way would be to go standalone to run the coils and probably run VAG coils as they seem to be the go-to for aftermarket. Relocated Distributor I later imported an SQ Engineering Dizi cap and relocate kit and (once I figured out the right lead lengths for Magnecor) it didn't have any spark breakdown or ignition issues after that point. OEM ECU, OEM Coil/Ignitor, OEM Distributor cap and Rotor. Yeah, it cost me on import but you might get lucky.[/b] |

Thanks @mad.matt , I'd heard that running coil over plug can work with the oem ecu, but that it's a bit hit-and-miss. Presumably it's prone to failure because it's batch firing all 4 plugs as opposed to alternating between 1-4 and 2-3, so it's firing each plug twice as often as it would with true wasted spark...
I've always liked the idea of retaining as much of the original set-up as possible for reliability as well for the "bang for buck", however as it's not going to be a daily driver, I'm leaning towards a standalone.... possibly Megasquirt.. Sent from my ANE-LX1 using Tapatalk |

Regarding the Yaris coils, they are intended to run in full sequential which mean aftermarket ECU and at least alteration of the original wiring and a different CAS to get a signal for each cylinder. Then you shouldn't have issues.
I understand this is a lot of effort and money especially if the rest of the engine is nearly stock AE86 ex-daily |

I'm thinking of painting it black...remade the front outriggers in 1.5mm for added strength, and dimpled the engine bay gussets...
