AFM and MAP engine differences?
I bought an AFM (low-comp) engine and am planning on using my MAP ECU/loom/intake. Can you please list all of the things that i have to use from my old MAP engine.
-AFM low-comp bottom end -bigport head -MAP intake manifold and intake -???.. Do i have to use my (map) distributor and injectors? |

yes for the injectors.
probably for the distributor (depends on the version). Additionally you will have probably to use the water outlets from the MAP version since some of the senders are situated differently. AE86 GTS '84 Red Top |

MAP/AFM they are the same (coming off a blue top that is). Why don't you just use the wiring/ECU/intake from MAP engine?

The pistons are different, you need the pistons from the map sensored 4A-GE.
You also need the engine wiring, and the other wiring (under the dashboard), ECU , MAP sensor, distrubutor, injectors. You don't need the head, these are the same. http://ae86.blog.hu - closed 2006 Toyota Corolla Verso 2.2 D4-D 1992 JDM Nissan Silvia PS13 RB26DETT powered |

AFM and MAP engine differences?
No no no. I had a MAP car. My MAP engine died. I bought a new AFM engine, without the ecu and wireing loom, because i WILL use my (MAP) ecu and loom.
The bare engine itself (bottom end and head) is the same for both variants (map and afm), except for the pistons (which are 9.4:1 CR for AFM and 10:1 for MAP). But i believe that this doesnt affect the electronics. If it would, you'd have to change the ECU whenever you decide on thinner headgasket or shaving of the head. Please correct me if im wrong. But. There are major diferences in other peripherial components (such as the air intake, vacum piping..), that i will also use from my old MAP setup, in order to make it run with my MAP ecu and loom. So what else must i use from my MAP setup? -MAP ecu -MAP loom -MAP air intake -MAP intake manifold -MAP distributor (please confirm?) -MAP injectors (please confirm?) -MAP water piping ??? -MAP vacum hoses ??? Anything else? Are the sparkplug cords and sparkplugs same? igniter? |

I'd use the igniter that goes with the distributor you will be running, for the rest it sounds pretty complete to me.. the water piping you need is the outlet on the back of the head, the one with 2 sensors on it.

I'm not 100% sure anymore but I think you'll need the igniter and coil that goes with the harness you're using. I've also heard something about different signals to the injectors.. we had someone on the FWD corolla club a while ago that had a 4A-FE and swapped a AFM 4A-GE with MAP harness, it was a total chaos lol.

So basiacally what you're saying i'd probably be better off using everything electrical from my old MAP engine?
