Carina rear end questiom

Anyone knows if the toyota carina st (ta40) rear axle is the same as the toyota ae86, or if the lsd of a ae86 will fit the diff??. Has the carins diff disc brakes??

If not, I heard that the AE86, rear end can be used on the Carina.

Axle should be the same since ta40 axle is the same as ta60 axle, but it uses drum breaks. However I think the mounting points are different. Perhaps you can ask Brawnie: he just sold his AE86 with Carina axle.

Zenki AE86 diffs wil fit the TA12/TA22/TA40/TA60 solid rear ends, but you need to take off 6mm of the halfshafts to get it to accept an LSD

Sorry for reviving dead thread, but I was just wondering if this is dead certain before I go nuts with 4age/2tg build, T50 tranny, dw coilovers and equip a zenki ae86 lsd and rear ae86 brakes+pedal box w/adjustable bias, spacers and the whole package for my TA40 wagon: a Zenki ae86 LSD of ANY brand (TRD, Tomei, Kaaz, etc) will definitely fit solid TA40 rear axle? Or did Topic Starter find a different solution?

Yes , any zenki will fit, you can doublecheck the VIN-tag on the firewall, look at Trans/axle it should say T50 T(3 numbers) The "T" is telling you it will fit and the number will tell you the ration and that its an open diff!

Remember that if you use a Toyota diff the axles need to be shortened, this might also apply to other brands...

Ah ok, it`s a T312 axle. (T40 transmission)

I`ll get a zenki TRD ae86 LSD then.
Might also have to look at getting discs rear, the right rear drum is shot
