My man, you are insane in the best possible meaning of the word. I admire your work. I was thinking of doing the same tape-imitation of blacklined tail lights myself, actually did it on one light and took it off afterwards. Didn't want to look like a posey, moneyless idiot, but now that i've seen it on yours, it brings about renewed ambition to tape stuff in me. =D

I think its comon sense, when you are in a track day you put some tape in the lights. If they broke for some reason (crash, light touch...) the glass dont fall on the race track, all the pieces stay with the gumtape! My guess.
Another thing, if you´re not familiar with driving on slicks, when running them with the same setup than with road tires, the car will dance like a boat. Slicks dont just grip, they GRIP, phisic laws do the rest! Ainda n tive oportunidade de ver esse especimen... Tá bom mesmo. Yeah, it probably is just to keep possibly shattered shrapnel from being left on the track, but still... I really don't like the tall look the stock tail lights give and surely i'm not willing to pay the $300-$400 most blacklines are selling for.
Back on topic - they grip so well on one of the pictures the inside tires are just about ready to lift off. =D If the car doubles as a daily driver and does the occasional track stint now and again, any suspension setting that's going to keep your kidneys intact driving on city roads is going to be a compromise on the road with slicks on... Adjustable shocks for the win! |

Hi there!
The tape is for shattering purposes only. And since I should use it, I made a pair of temporary blacklines . "El_Cheap'O_Tuning" apart, my suspension setting really sucks for track day use (along with slicks - Avon ACB10 Sport 195/45R15). I have some hope that the TRD 6/4.7kg springs will correct it, since the car isn't low/stiff enough. Nevertheless, I think this setup gives me a lot of feedback on car physics. Turning in and cornering through the apex gets a whole new meaning. It might have been a very good teacher for the next track days. Thank you for your comments News soon, I hope! |

Apolan, I have Bilstein shocks, which I think are fine, but the springs are Apex, with an unknown spring rate (on the soft side for sure) and they didn't lower the car.
Suspension wise, I also have prothane bushings all around, camber plates and rca's. Best regards. |
