The 4A-GE has many conversions

4A = the name of the lower block

GE = the type and head name

4A-FE

FE = the economic version

4A-GZE

same as the 4age except the Z stand for supercharger (used in mr2 AW11, Toyota Corolla Levin - Trueno AE92 AE101)

4A-GTE

T Stands for turbo this engine was never originally build it has been a conversion of a gze or ge with a turbo on it

4age is an 16 V engine

later the 4age got a 20V younger brother in 2 verisons

AE101 silvertop 20V 160hp in the engine
AE111 Blacktop 20V 165-170hp in the engine

this version has variable valve timing to compete with Honda V-tec engines.

the 4age is in 2 difrent lower blocks

A 3 ribt block and a 7 ribt one

the 7 ribt one comes in 2 versions one with oilsquirters and one without them.

with oilsquirters is build since 1991 the 7 ribs is build since 1987.

3 ribs is build since 1982 and released in 1983. The ribs are for a stronger lower block and not for cooling as one might think

Check what you want everything has its advantages.

Turbo and supercharger a great for more power and sprints etc.

NA is perfect for drifting high revving

Both the 20V engines are only good for around 140bhp. The valve timing system is no match for the VTEC system. Honda has patented everything thats even similar.

nah then can put out more because there held in same like a limiter also the standard jap ecu's are limitet at 185 kmh

the engine doesn't run on its full potential seen one run at 190 Hp at the wheels how fun is that
