High oil pressure
Please do check the amount of blow-by on the crankcase ventilation though...I have seen one other 4age that had such high oil-pressure and wasnt broken, but you might as well be sure. Just pull the rubber tube off the manifold and give it a bit of throttle...it shouldnt be blowing too much..although a bit is normal.

the 4A-GE from a friend of mine (110.000 original kms in a Celica Coupe GT) has the same pressure. No probs so far, and he knows where the limiter is Wink

I wish that I have got like you high pressure.

Mine is with cold engine between two marks, and with warm engine under middle mark, at 800 rmp, about 2 mm.

Sounds a bit like my own engine, when cold it's around 50% of the scale, when I start driving it comes a bit up into the area between the lines, and when it's warm it stays slightly under the top line. But sometimes after driving say 150km's the idle will drop further than it usually does, and then the meter easily drops 1mm under the lower line. I really hate it when that happens, but I have an old engine (200.000km's) so I decided to live with it. Maybe it needs a new oil pump..who knows.

Ok! So I have to remove the rubber tube with the airfilter on it and look if there isn't smoke or air coming out of the tvis thing?

Uhm..no...there is a 1cm thick rubber pipe coming from the valve covers going to the middle of the intake manifold. You need to pull this loose while the engine is running (I would the pull hose off on the manifold side).
Just put your thumb on it and see how much pressure it builds up. Also give it a bit of throttle (by pulling the throttle lever off course) and see if it blows out much smoke. If you get lots of pressure, and lots of smoke then you can be certain that some piston rings have broken. If it's not blowing hard from the ventilation hose then it's probably fine.
The best 4AGE I have ever seen had almost no air blowing out of the PCV (crankcase ventilation) and ran smoothly and quitly at 500 rpm, so it is a pretty good indicator of the state of the engine.

I had the same problem with my aw11,it has 215.000 kilometers on it.I usually gave some gas when it was idling to raise the pressure (1100 rpm).

I was using 10w40 kroon oil back then and I am now using 20w50 oil.The problem is now solved.I think the engine is simply showing some wear,Not strange for a 4age with a lot of kilometers,You never know how previous owners drove it, probably hard.

Maybe it are the main bearing or indeed an oil pump.

Hmmm, because of this topic I watched my oil-pressure meter the whole time today and came to the conclusion I have the same readings as DJexor... Perhaps time to swap over to 20w50. Dumb question

High oil pressure
I read the whole sticky OIL thread but i can`t find anywhere what kind of oil supposed to be used in a 4age.Synthetic of half-syntethic or mineral and what viscocity.

Most engines today use 10w40 so i thought the 4ag would use this as well but perhaps i am wrong.20w50 gives a higher pressure but is it meant to be used in a 4ag engine?

Does anyone have a user/repair manual which states what kind of oil u should use?

according to the Mobil chart into our oil thread it should be 0w40 and the alternative would be 10w40
