Starter Motor
Hi guys, I think i need a new starter motor.
At the weekend when i was trying to start my car, there was nothing happening, no noise. After, i clean a few cables and nudged a few components, then it started. Magic so, my question, is do i just go to Toyota to get a new starter motor or what ones have you guys got and recommend? There is only one true Nismo at AEU86 |

We have a sticky about that topic:
http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/starter-p...38/start=0 Perhaps that's of any use? You can either revise the starter motor, try to get a second hand (refurbished) or a new one. You have to be careful, not every 4age startermotor will fit. 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

If nudging things is helping, then the starter motor itself is probably the last thing to blame (unless offcourse you nudged it with a bloody big hammer).
You probably have a loose signal wire.. check the connection first. If the starter is turning the engine around with enough power and speed then it is likely in good enough condition. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

Thanks guys.
Banpei, you said that not all 4age motor starter fits, please elaborate. My car is 1986 and has a AE92 engine. Cheers There is only one true Nismo at AEU86 |

later 4age's often came with reduction type starters, these are better than the old direct type's, but they dont fit without a spacer I think. But dont be dissapointed if you fit a new starter and the problem hasnt gone away, you should focus more on the wiring. Next time the starter refuses to turn, take a bit of wire, and connect the signal connector on the starter directly to your +12v on the battery. Do be carefull and put it in neutral first. if the starter turns, then you have a wiring problem, not a starter problem.

Nisno - I had that problem with mine - allsorts of starters listed for twincams and i have a 92 engine in mine too.
I took mine off, cleaned connections and put a new battery on. problem cured - and my symptoms were EXACTLY as you describe yours! |
