OIL..gone...huh?
I decided to check my Oil level today since i've been on holiday for a week and if the car has been sitting idle I wanted to make sure everything was in check.

Now I topped up the Oil just about a month ago so wasnt expecting much change, but for some reason its close to empty. I can't see the oil leaking from anywhere and there are no patches in my driveway has the oil been burnt? what should I be checking? Confused

Dont want to scare you, but a friend of mine had a similar problem (NOT on a Hachi, it was a Sunny ZX) it turned out to be an oil blockage somewhere inside that eventually fried his big ends Huh

I would change the oil and flush it, if it was me, also check the plugs for any signs of oil burn.

Yeah as Blue Neon said...flush your engine. By the sound of things I would drop the rest of the oil out of the sump, change oil filter and then top the car back up with 3 ltrs or what ever the amount you put in the engine. Then I would add some engine flush treatment, which you pour into your engine via the oil hole. Let it run for alittle bit but from what if heard dont rev the engine to much...because how the engine flush treatment works is it thins the oil up big time...this way it hopes to get all the oil out of the oil gallerys etc... then you do a full oil change and filter change. Also check your plugs to make sure shes still sparking ok.

I don't see how a engine can go through that much oil with in a month. I had a Celica with a 3SGE in it...its rings were done and the engine wasnt running right (rich most of the time) and it only used 1ltr of oil a month.

Hope I helped alittle

I was told today that Corollas go through Oil, much like Fords go through water. Is this true? Dumb question

it could be the valveseals.

Let someone drive behind you, drive 120 km/h in fifth gear, drop down to 90km/h and then give full power.
If the one behind you sees blue smoke coming from the exhaust, then most probably the valveseals are gone..

When I first got the car it had a faint burning smell back then but I thought that was down to a fuel pipe which got replaced and then the smell went. After topping up the oil yesterday however, the smell has returned at high revs. So I can only assume the engine is burning it off without the smoke.

I still find this quite strange for an engine to use that much oil...it just doesnt seem right. I think that your engine is just very sick...hmmmm.

Has it been using more petrol? or has it been hard to start etc etc??

It might be using more petrol, although it's hard to tell, I haven't been keeping that close an eye on it, I also havent had any problems starting it.
