OIL:)
Hello again,
Regarding oils for AE86... I went into the shop of Mobil oil distributor in Croatia, and pretend like a "want buy oil, don't now what gradation". They recommend me Mobil 5w50, it will be ok for you car. I was pretending like dump ass, and I ask him that do they have some "oil chooser" (like on USA mobiloil site: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/Moto...option=2). They first time heard for something like this.. Ok, doesn't matter.. Do you have some kind of oil chart for each engine/car type. Oh yes, we do! Shopper took out mobil book with all car models, and preferred oil for ae86 was Mobil 0w40 full synth (first oil what my mechanic put inside, and I was satisfied with it, oil pressure, consumption... etc..). Under option 1 was Mobil S 10w40. I tried to take photo of that page, it's bad quality, so I highlighted major thing.. So, I'm back on 0w40 full synth after 10w40 semi-synth (I putted it inside, during some hard explained reasons), will inform you about result for few days. Yes, oil isn't cheap, 4 liter cost about 70 euros (why you buy it, are u stupid or what ![]() ![]() 1997 EG2 vti 1986 AE86 levin coupe 1984 AE86 levin coupe ![]() |

Just been thinking. If you've made the change over from mineral to synthetic then would there be any damaging effects going back to mineral?

Ivan141 Wrote:I use Castrol GTX (high mileage). Dont have any particular technical reason for it. It's just the most popular choice of oil among members of the dutch corollaclub. Seems some oils are detrimental to the valve seals (valvoline). GTX is semi-synthetic by the way, I dont know if switching to 5W-? would be very wise on an engine with 190k km's same oils i use ![]() |

I use Castrol as well... Used Shell oils in the past, but with the Shell oils my engines always consumed the oil instead of using it to keep my engine running. One engine (4AGE) took 1 liter Shell oil at 1000km, it almost didn't consume any oil any more, after I switched to Castrol GTX with that engine.

0w40... damn. Didn't know you could get that stuff yet... I run 0w30 in the Pug on recommendation of some Touring-Car guys though.

What he means is dont use it on an LSD rearend unless you add some kind of additive for LSD equipped diffs. The amount of slip in the LSD is also determined by the oil and it might wear out too fast if you use the wrong oil (or work poorly).
