One-piece driveshaft
I've got a drive shaft from Max. It vibrated like hell untill I got it balanced. After this its ok. I don't think there is a lot to gain though...

Factory driveshafts are balanced, and any custom or modified driveshaft
needs to be balanced. That is just a simple out of balance rather than a
torsional vibration, and easily fixed.

Given that driveshafts are basically a thin wall tube, the change in inertia
between one-piece and two-piece will be quite small. As you say, the
effect will be hard to measure, and easily surpassed by the effect of
larger wheels or heavier tires.

One of the things that interests me, is that the one-piece driveshaft will
be putting higher loads on the gearbox output shaft bearings. I'm
wondering if anyone has ever found that the gearbox needed more
attention after fitting a one-piece shaft ??

I recently installed the onepiece shaft with a rebuild rearaxle and a 2way diff. I have no a very highpitched singing noise, comming from the valve train. The Differential was aligned by my mechanic who has the knowhow doing that properly.

What do you think? Does the noise come from a bad balanced driveshaft?

Cheers!

You bring it to a company that specializes in balancing. Let us know how things go. My money is still on the pignion.

If by valve train you refer to the top of the engine, it is most unlikely
that the cause is in the rear end or driveshaft. Rear end noise can sound
like wheel bearings or gearbox noise, but I have never heard it coming
from the engine.

I suggest you get a short length of garden hose and with one end to your
ear, probe the other end around the running engine. You could have a
vacuum leak. Does the noise follow engine speed or road speed ??

sorry, I was stoned or what ever. But the noise is coming from the pinion and crown wheel or the finalgear assembly. And is in relation to speed.

Simplest thing is to replace your original 2-piece axle. Quick and easy to do and allows you to eliminate the driveshaft as a cause.
