So, I feel a bit retarded (Drum brake question)....
Ok, so I was trying to replace my pads in the rear of my SR5 today, and I got down to the outside of the drum, and I couldn't get the outside of the drum off. I tried to pull out the center, but no such luck. So, if anyone could give me directions on how to remove the drum covers in the back, I can get it from there. I've done it once before with a friend, just don't remember how we got the cover off. So any help would be much appreciated. Like I said, I feel like a mental midget for not being able to do this. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, but this should be easy....
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. p.s. I did do a bit of searching but didn't find what I was looking for, so if it's already been posted before I do apologize. |

Make sure you haven't pulled your handbrake... that makes the pads push out towards the drum.
That's the only tip i got, and i have NO idea of the drums of a SR5 looks... :/ |

there must be a small hole somewhere in the drum.
Try to find a bolt which fits the hole and just screw it in untill the drum comes loose. That was how i removed mine "It's all about the heart, the people who focus on parts, turbo's and all that stuff...they're just losers." -Shinji Minowa |

I know that on my old Opel Manta, the drums where only held in place by the wheel screwes(what's the real name here?). Could be the same thing here. Tried hitting the drum hard? Oh, beware of that brake dust... Kills your throat.

no, the drum should slide of when the wheel is removed.
If it's jammed, you can try to screw a bolt in a hole somewhere on the drum. I needed to do this also, at my Corolla. It should be somewhere on the drum. While screwing in the bolt, the drum pushes itself of the hub. Kinda difficult to explain, and it's to dark to go outside, jack up my Corolla and take pics to clear up some things "It's all about the heart, the people who focus on parts, turbo's and all that stuff...they're just losers." -Shinji Minowa |

Evil3lf Wrote:So just brute force it off at this point then? Well, i could do it with a small rattler (???). It should not be too hard, it's just that your hands don't have the right grip on the drum to pull it off. Maybe Widar's tips work just as fine, a small tap with a sledge-hammer or so will work also "It's all about the heart, the people who focus on parts, turbo's and all that stuff...they're just losers." -Shinji Minowa |
