have had the same problem, tried testing alot of things (map-sensor,ECU,electrical wiring,...) eventually it was the fuelpump that didn't worked so good, it didn't make enough pressure while it was working & sometimes it worked great and after a few km it stopped

so fitted a new one (walbro) & engine works even better
don't know if yours is still stock?

yeah, my fuel pump is still stock, maybe i should try a new one!
it´s just as you say, sometimes it stops, in every situation... slow driving or just flat out...

I have a problem with engine starter, but not with starter but with part which move starter gear into flywheel and make a contact betwen + pole of batery and starter motor, you know, smal piece which is screwed for starter.

Do someone know from which Toyota engines I can fit in starter or just part that moves starter gear?

Just bring old one, and salesman go back, and do a search and that is it.

They are very good with prices here in Croatia and we also have some discount.

Hey thought I will share with you guys about my problems with the starter in my hachi.
same deal, old and worn out.

the problems that I had before that was it didnt want to start after it heated up... and tried all the banging and bashing and clutch starting. It lasted for another month before the starter really died on me. I turned the keys and there was NOTHING.

So I took the started out and had to change the "piston" inside the starter.
Basically its the gear that spins your flywheel around won't go back into place.

Anyway, had a rebuild done for HK$800, thats including parts and labour.

After rebuilding the starter, it starts fine for another week.
Then the same problem happened again.

So it turns out that the hachi is not getting enough EARTH.
Especially from the iginition barrel cos its pretty old and worn.

Anyway, had some relays put in and some more earthing wires that I made up myself.

Starts fine everytime now.

do u want the starter problems end for ever? relocate the starter and use a 4afe starter

I had the same problem - same symptoms recently...

Pulled the starter and found as shown on the pics below. Cobber plate is out of concentricity and has been rubbing on the solenoid. Realigned - car started up immediately.

Sometimes the ignition switch becomes bad. (That was the problem of my 86).
By adding a relay between the starter and ignition switch it could solve the problem of clicking.

Good tips here, although I'm not too sure I would recommend a starter relocation.
