exhaust manifold
Hey Guys,
OK I definatelly have a leak somewhere in my exhaust. We think its the bit where the header goes from 2 to 1 pipe. I'm guessing it may have to do something with the screw holes for the heatshield or somethign as the heatshielding is coming loose. Its a good change that when I remove the heatshields completely I'll be able to see how bad it is and hopefully fix it easily.. If it turns out to be worse then I expect, this would be a good option to start discussing alternatives on our board. What options are there to replace the header with something nicer? I could go with a stock replacement but somehow I think thats not the road I'd take... Fensport seems to sell some direct replacement stuff, no idea how good that is... On club 4ag I read about pacesetter headers that could be an option. What else is out there? Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

By most accounts the standard headers are pretty good, its only when you really start tuning the engine that they become an issue.
Lots of UK owners use the Janspeed manifold though, seems to have a good following. |

Jon,
But I heard somewhere the janspeed header doesn't bolt right up to the stock downpipe? Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

Also we have the steeringaxle on the exhaust side. So most RHD manifolds won't fit ours.

Didn't think of that, guess you need to look to america, but pacesetter don't have a great rep from what i've heard.

mux, if you can temporarily fix yours - soon I can offer tested 4-1 header (I built it, need to be compared with stock one on dyno).
If you prefer - I have spare original header also. |

Jamie sounds interesting! let me know!
I am going to try and fix it first though.. I did hear that a 4-2-1 design should be better then a 4-1 design? Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

I made 4-1 TRD copy from mild steel.
Yes, 4-2-1 is better for smooth torque curve but 4-1 gives more power - in narrower range. I built 4-1 with long primaries - to avoid power peak at very high RPM so the header is usefull to gain power even in 6000 RPM range (will test it on dyno and see exactly what's going on). I can fabricate 4-2-1 if you prefer (it's even easier becouse it doesn't need 4-1 merge collector). |
