need expirienced ae86 owners..webber carbs help..frustrated
my 4age has 40mm webber carbs...i was running a facet fuel pump which was deemed terrible for the carbs because of the lack of volume it put out...the facet put out about 7-8 psi and had a pulsating fuel delivery....that is the reason i thought my car would die after about 5 minits with out using the gas pedal...so i got a carter p4070 fuel pump which delivers 5 psi at 70 gal. per hour...i had heard a good volume was what the carbs needed...so i install the fuel pump..crank the engine...and it runs for 3 minits before gas starts leaking out the front of the carbs...gas also leaked out the back of the carbs..im hoping i didnt blow the seals on the carbs...my thought is the carbs wer tuned with the facet pump so they werent set to run with the carter pump..anyway i need some help with this issue...i got my information on the internet...what do u guys think?

You may have to check that needle valve in carbs closes properly and if there is no return from carbs back to fuel tank, then you need a fuel pressure regulator.
http://www.alamomotorsports.com/weber/re...lpump.html This is how I did it with Facet Redtop: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d61/Kl...ti/6-7.jpg Here you can find a part list and exploded views to Weber carb: http://www.webercarburator.com/carbdetai...oe_151.htm "Tämmösellä modernilla autolla, niin mun mielestä, ei tämmöstä kisaa voi ajaa. Tää käy kunnon päälle eikä riitä aivot tähän touhuun!" ""With a modern car like this, in my opinion, a competition like this can't be driven. It's too physical and your brains can't cope with this stuff" -Henri Toivonen 2.5.1986- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwgB4Xs4LVQ |

You will want a fuel regulator in the fuel delivery line before the carbs to drop the pressure right down - check the pressure the webers need - IIRC its under 5psi.
You can run carbs on the EFI pump if you need to as well, just make sure there is a tank return line before the fuel regulator so the unused fuel gets sent back to the tank. Sounds like they probably arent set up properly - best start over. I have a manual for Mikuni Solex, they are very close match to the webers, so have a read and apply it to the DOCE's you have - should give you some ideas to start with. http://eight-six.co.uk/?page_id=93 http://www.eight-six.co.uk - read the blog!
