need some info on my AE86
hi guys,
I'm Heshan from Sri Lanka and I'm a huge fan of the AE86 and I finally bought one. I need you guys to give me the exact details as this came with absolutely no documentation. Its an AE86 but a bit of mods in Japan. The only pic i have for now is attached. It has sort of a cold air intake system (APEXI), a "thrust" exhaust, a nardi steering, GAB pressure adj shocks, etc. Please tell me what you guys think of this baby. also I've noticed the rev limiter is at around 7.8 - 7.9k. is this normal or do you think the japanese did some mods to the engine? is there anyway i could identify a APEX by its looks rather than the 4AGE engine? thanks in advance, heshan. I think that your engine is a map and not afm. So if its a map then its normal to have rev limit up to 7800

need some info on my AE86
thanks mate.
I'm having a few issues with the panda. I'll just put them out so that i can sort it out. in Sri Lanka mechanics aren't that passionate about what they do so I'm having a hard time finding someone who'd help me bring this baby to a nice smooth condition though I drive it to work and back everyday. 1. when i accelerate just beyond 2.2k and let go of the throttle the car slows down unbearably until 1.6-1.8k and then lets go of that that retardation and starts moving smoothly. I've tried to show this to alot of engineers but cant seem to recreate it when i wanted it to 2. when i change gear i can hear a clunk each time. This seems to have affect on my smooth ride and also power transfer on the shifts. There was a gear box mount that had broken so I replaced it I'm not sure if that had an effect. The sound was there from b4 3. When i rev past 6 i can feel that i dont gain any more power there after the car revs much slowly to 7.8k and the power that i have at that point is lesser than when i shift at around 6 or 7k. why is this? 4. also i seem to have a small back-fire in the engine with the car. is there anyone out there who could help me with these 4 issues? as you guys might have noticed I'm a beginner into motor mechanics so please be gentle |

2. : I have the same thing with my car, and I've had it before with the Cabrio Celica. I think it's just the clutch that's hitting the flywheel a bit rough. I shouldn't be too worried about it.
3. : a stock 4age loses his power after 6,5k rpm. That's normal for a stock 4age. @ 7,5k rpm i've only got about 65 HP and is dropping very fast when going to even higher RPM. I reject your reality and substitute my own! No more Panda.. Tricolor bastard! If it 'aint broke, fix it 'til it is |

mine is clucking for 2 years now. I've changed the clutch a couple of times, replaced the flywheel, still the same. It's not getting any worse, so im not too worried about it...

heshan Wrote:is there anyway i could identify a APEX by its looks rather than the 4AGE engine? You could always look at the modelcode on the VIN plate: http://www.aeu86.org/index/toyota-firewa...topic=4757 If it ends with VF it is GT Apex, while QF is GT/GTV spec. Both did feature the 4AGE btw... 1983 - AE86 Sprinter Trueno - import project 2013 - Honda Civic sport - daily driver 2004 - AEU86 dot ORG - daily domain Support our forum, buy from the AEU86 shop: |

heshan Wrote:thanks for the info mate. anyone who could help meProbably feeling the fuel cut on deceleration. When the throttle is closed and the engine speed is high, the injectors stop squirting. They come back on when the engine speed drops to around 1400rpm or you open the throttle. Its a fuel saving thing Quote:4. also i seem to have a small back-fire in the engine with the car.Check your ignition timing. Should be 10 deg BTDC with the diagnostic plug bridged, all accessories off, and idle speed around 850 rpm. Cheers... jondee86 |

thanks jondee86. this is awesome. the backfire seems to have got much more aggravated the past few days.
also one more thing about the abnormal slowing down of the car is that it doesnt happen all the time. I only happens on and off mostly when the engine heats up.. what you think jondee86?? |
