nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,
Hello, what spring rates do you run? Im running the std 8kg in the front, and 6kg in the back (came on the BC coil overs) Interestingly, I decided at a track day to go out for a bit of a skid/drift, and hardened the rear shocks up a lot, thinking the stiffer it was, the better it would slide, oddly it got more grip in the rear, and made the car understeer? Maybe I've had my shocks/sway bars set to soft for the tires?

nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,
Finally a chance to test in the dry . Still running on wet tires as my second set of rims have not been finished yet , can't wait to get it on slicks. The soft Kuhmo's that I was using were a bit vague after a lap or two in the dry.
I think it sounds not bad!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsxdCZYdS1E Your addiction to motorsport can only be cured by poverty !! |

Can't wait to see it on slicks I literally have goose bumps! N2 <3
I really appreciate that you have maintained the original wheel size 13x8/9 rather than succumb to temptation and fit 15" like most N2 in Japan now. I have a set of Kuhmo V70A 195/55R15 fitted on 15x7J (but haven't yet used them for circuit sprints - 3 laps per session) So I'm interested to see how they fare compared to Advan A048R or Toyo R888 that other guys run. Mine have 4 rows of pattern but now see the V700 has 6 - The "wets" you used are the latter? I read here http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?...ECSTA+V700 "Important Notice: Kumho Ecsta V700 tires must be shaved to 2-3mm tread depth for any autocross or track use in the dry. Kumho advises that the Ecsta V700 must be shaved prior to use in dry conditions. If this tire is not shaved, excessive wear may occur causing the tire to wear to the cords prematurely in a localized area. Tire heat cycling will not prevent the excessive localized wear of full tread depth tires but will continue to enhance tire consistency and wear on shaved tires. The Ecsta V700 should only be used at full tread depth 5mm for wet track and wet autocross use." So I guess that these tend to form a thick crust on heat cycling like toasted cheese sandwiches. Pity they recommend scrubbing half the tread for optimum dry performance. RokuSteady : Shakotan - Tsuraichi - Hippari - Onikyan : 神奈川 様式 |

Same width and offset as the last set . So now will have the slicks mounted up as well .I still have a full set of TRD Tosco's that I may end up using on something else as I haven't been able to find any 9" wide ones for the rear. There have been a few pairs of 9j Tosco's on Yahoo Japan recently. If you go through an agent you can get them no problem.

Hi the wets that I have are these , These are the fronts other than picking up a bit of rubber they look like they have worn not bad at all.So I think for these wheels my alignment setup is in the right direction.Probably with less tread will be less movement and heat build up, but for wet weather the more tread the better. Now sitting on slicks with the gold look of yesteryear ! The next job is to replace the clutch as the quartermaster twin plate is too severe and getting of the line is almost impossible.Going to replace it with a new Tilton twin plate . It seems never ending!! Your addiction to motorsport can only be cured by poverty !! |

nzae86's TRD ae86 N2 Race Car Project 2,
I had a QM twin plate on my 1UZ turbo build, worst clutch ever. For the power youre putting out, a stock clutch would be easily sufficient, maybe only a slightly heavier cover I would have thought.
