rear brakes and rear axle questions
ok im new to toyotas hopefully i dont get burned for asking a sort of unrelated question. i want to install a toyota 10 bolt in my pinto circle track car. i have all the tools and the ability to do it i just need some more info. i like the toyota rear ends because they are well built and have lots of gear choices that a ford rear end doesn't. i got a rear axle out of 1981 celica supra thinking it was a "t" series rear axle. the car had an engine fire and the firewall plate was unreadable. so now i have an axle with disc brakes but its not a 6.7" rear end. i want to get a "t" series rear end with the 6.7" size ring gear there is an 1982 and 1985 celica in the same junk yard with a t on the firewall plate can i use the disc brakes i have on the t series rear axle?
also does anyone know if theres an aluminum third member available for the 6.7" housings? thank you in advance. |

rear brakes and rear axle questions
If that celica supra you took the diff from is an MA45, then it's a t series diff. If the celica that's still in the yard has drums, then the bolt pattern for the backing plate and bearing retainer will be different. The drum brake t series diffs have a rectangular patter while the disk brake ends had an offset pattern. However, if you can find an ST141 or RT142 corona avante (live axle, not IRS), then the disk brakes from these will fit on the drum brake t series axle. - search toymods for an article on the swap
Can't help you with your second question. Chris |

Fastsaab - might be my bad on MA45 = t series. The brakes are the same bolt patterns for retainer and backing plate as on the disk brake t series diffs. However, the brakes are larger, I think roughtly 1" >diameter.
