time for changing my transmission
I've got a t50 lying in my (bed)room and want this into my celica.

How much time is it to replace the t50??

I've got now a t40 in it and want to upgrade to the t50..
no changing pressure plate or something, just the t50.
How long does it takes for first-timers (2 persons, at friday morning)

thanks Mark

I don't know about first-timers, but an expert me3chanic will need at least 2 hrs. If it was me (super first-timer), I would be ready to work until the afternoon and possibly not even finish. Make shure you have all gaskets, bearings and oil before you start. Good luck!

To change my T50 on my AE86, on a ramp, takes less than an hour easy! But then i do work for Toyota and it is 2nd nature to me! Big Grin

It's easy to change these gearboxes, I just did a quick count up and reckon there are about 26 bolts (mostly 12 & 14mm spanner size)) to remove/replace none are awkward even without a ramp, just make sure the car is well supported. I use the drive on style ramps for the front wheels and axle stands on the axle. A small tip: if you have help get them to support the gearbox with rope from inside the car ( through tranny tunnel) when lifting in/out. If no help available just support 'box on a decent sized trolley jack and lift into position with this.
Fill with oil through the gearstick hole but use a tiny funnel to access the small hole.
Don't overtighten the clutch slave cylinder bolts. Loctite bolts that have non removable lock washers. Use new lock washers for propshaft bolts. There will be quite a lot of oil still in the box even after draining so try to keep it as level as possible when lifting in/out.
Allow 4 hours
That's about it, good luck Smile
