remove / replace starter
Anyone can explain how to remove the starter?
The manual says: remove wires and the two bolts that's it. That I figured out myselve already Smile
But... I can not get it out in any direction...

Do I need to remove any other parts? It is touching the E/G mount or heatshield or... so I can not pull it backward enough.

I need to have it replaced before weekend.

Thanks in advance.
Thumbs up!

I remember, at least that I removed the oilfilter, maybe the oilcooler adaptor, too.
Still wasn´t easy to get it out...
Maybe this helps a little

I undo the wires from the battery, and unclip the 1 wire. Then I remove the heatshield from the starter (a semi pain in the ass). And slide the starter out towards the firewall. Takes some manuevering but can be done.

That´s by far the easiest option, if you don´t mind spending the bucks on the new gasket Smile

easiest and at least for me fastest option is to remove the header from head. I was able to just slide the OEM off the studs to gain more room to remove the starter towards the firewall. But I don't have EGR or the exhaust to gearbox bracket mounted so that's too things less for me to remove.

if you don't have powersteering or aircon I think the path to the front is also quiet convenient if you plan to make an oil/filter change too.

OK THanks.
At least I can stop trying to get it out like it is now....

I'll give it a try with the heatshield first. If it doesn't work manifold goes of.

Thanks Thumbs up! Thumbs up!

All that can be said has been said: but I'll +1 the remove the heatshield solution, as this has worked for me in the past. It's still a hassle, but better than removing the header.

X2, 15 minutes max to remove, except the heatshield is a PITA to replace, not remove.

So what!
