Bascially I choped all the mounts off the hilux diff and the ae85 diff then re-welded the ae85 mounts onto the hilux diff, restuded, made new sway bar mounts, made new brackets for bakes. Heya Rick. Good to see another Kiwi on here! I saw your project on Toyspeed as well, im AE86less.
Where on earth did you find such a nicely nanna'd ae85? Im lookin' at selling my rusty, faulty hatch to buy another, better one. I don't mind if it's hatch or notch, just so long as the body's good. Do you do your own welding? Cause I've heard that it costs quite alot to change the mounts on the Hilux diff. Hehe, theres good logic there ^ people go all out to find a ae86 for a race car then strip out all the good stuff. They should just leave them for me to make a nice road car. hey rick,
nice to see some more kiwis floating around. last time i saw you i think was at the '86 meet in one tree hill (then bk westgate). i must put up some pics of mine soon. so how hard was it to put the ae92 brakes on the rear? you re-drill for 4x114.3mm pcd? just i've got a facelift ae92 gt sitting in my carport (yay small port!) wondering whether i strip it & dump it or takes things off like brakes and swap them over to my levin... scott ps gotta agree with yourself & nz trueno - the price of ae86's i almost cry when i see one torn up, stripped down and then abused. they are rare enough as it is! i say if you wanna convert, do the 85. for us nzers anyways (i know some countries have no choice) :wink: |

wow...an oil cooler that blocks off the airflow to the radiator. Not trying to be sarcastic, but if your routing the oil lines for full flow (in stock configuration this setup would be wasted money), I would put in a thermostatic bypass. This thing will keep your oil from heating up otherwise, which will induce extra wear on the engine.

Where do you see any fittings for air piping? Those pipes look more suited for water or oil. bit tiny for an intercooler, and certainly a very poor design if it is.
He said it's a pre-radiator, but the point of having 2 radiators is really beyond me. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

i think he means the heat exchanger for a water-to-air intercooler.
usually run a small radiator to cool the water that goes in the intercooler as well... a bit like air-conditioning. stealth points = +++ means it is slightly more complex, but in my books much better than the old air-to-air intercooler. air to air don't do much unless you've got high air flow across them (and they tend to block the airflow from the radiator too) |
