REAR CALIPER STUCK?? HELP
well not sure if thats right word i bought some rear calipers from yahoo they were suppose to have been just removed from a vehicle in working order, and they certainly do look it calipers wee very clean when i got them and still had in brake pluid no corosion on piston th also came with pads and pads look almost new. now one caliper was assembled on rotor no prob, but the other one seems to be clamped in and is holding rotor also very hard to slide over rotor so its like stuck in a brakein position, i tried pushin it out and it goes out just fine(with force) and spouts fluid and then it comes right back in when i release, anybody have any ideas, hopin i dont need a rebuild cuz im not sure if i can source parts locally so that means more down time but if so so be it, but any solutions? thanks

REAR CALIPER STUCK?? HELP
You need to turn it to get it back in, but I suppose you already know that. If it gets very hard to turn in beyond a certain point, you have a knackered hand-brake mechanism. This is a well-known problem, seems the innards of the handbrake assembly get gunked up with sludge, and then it starts blocking the piston from turning all the way back in.
If the piston is still good, you can be pretty sure this is the problem. It does not affect braking performace in my experience, nor does the handbrake not work, you just cant get new pads in without some serious violence. My advice would be to rebuild it. rebuild kits are 40 dollars from toyota, and contain all the fiddly bits for the handbrake assembly. FABRICA MI DIEM, PVNC! |

REAR CALIPER STUCK?? HELP
Do keep in mind that rebuilding the handbrake mechanism requires a special tol that you'll need to buy or make from an old brake piston. It's not as easy as the rest of the rebuild.
