AE85 vs. AE86
Hi.

I'm about to buy a AE85. I've read about some of the differences between the AE85 and AE86. Basicly it's the engine, the lsd? and some interiour? Can anyone here specify the differences?

I'm planning to change the engine to a 4A GZE, is this just as "simple" as changing in the AE86?

The body is the same, right? So all the styling and such is the same?

Thanks for answers. Cool

Are you importing the AE85 from Japan/NZ/Australia/Malaysia or are you buying a SR5 spec USDM/EU? Dumb question

For both the difference is the engine, lsd and interior, however the AE85 does have a K-50 tranny and the SR5 spec does have a T-50 tranny. For both cars you need to change the fuelpump, however you probably would need to change it anyway for a GZE swap. Wink

The body is the same, but on both SR5 and AE85 spec cars you don't have the two-tone panda color schemes. Think that's about it. Tongue

It is an AE85 from EU, Schweiz. I don't have much info about it, but the pictures are at:

Looks like it sais SR on the back, no 5 number (?). Is AE85 and SR5 two different cars?

The car look really good, and I'm getting a good price on it. The plan is to re-paint it anyway, to either the white/black or the red/black combination

Not sure what a K-50 or T-50 tranny is. I'm kind of a newbe, but I'll figure it out Tongue

And the brakes are dfferent; front ventilated discs, and rear discs for AE 86, and front non-ventilated discs and rear drum type for AE85.

fuel line is difrent from the rear tank and lets not forget the electronics. The ae86 almost has the same wireloom as of an GZE but the SR5 and ae85 don't.

2 thinks I find strange is that the 1.6SR is sold ineurope and second what on earth did you pay for this little car as far as i get on money it seems to be around 6000 euro's ????

The price on the page is not correct. I'm getting it for less than 3500 euro's. If I accept it, what do you think? Ok price for a nice car like that, remember I plan to change the engine and paint it Cool

SR5 and AE85 are different cars. The SR5 spec has a 4AC engine (1600) instead of the 3AC engine (1500) in the AE85. It is also somewhat more luxurious in options, so it could have powersteering and airco but I doubt if that was included in the EU spec SR5.

The tranny means transmission. The K50 is, as I understood, weaker than the T50 so using a GZE on a K50 is asking for trouble. The AE86 has the T50 and we've seen several cars being converted to GZE on a T50 without major problems.

Meshin: you are right about that, I forgot to mention that as well. That also means if you swap the axle as well you have to swap the brake balancer as well.

Robokill: we have already seen a couple of SR5 spec levins through Europe: spitfire in Czech, one in Hungary and another one in Turkey. Most of them were sold in Switzerland.

You are also correct on the wireloom: the engine loom should be different but most of it is the same. Easier to swap only part of it. Wink

Syns: I think if you read this topic you can see what you're up to:
