i dont know about not affecting the handling too much man.

a workable set up for sure Smile with tons of usable power, as a drift car, its going to be great fun to drive, but its not gonna feel or react the same.

ive seen joshs car on the track a number of times.

he runs the engine alot further back than youve set it up, and he still runs a live axle, so i think it would be fair to say his car is closer to a normal hachi than yours is gonna end up.

and from observing his car track side it, his car just doesnt have the same look. doesnt turn in as sharply, or snap into a slide violently like a normal 86 does. the differences between yours and his build are going to accentuate these characteristics i would say.

defnitly agree, my car is going to be very diffrent than joshes, but my engine is in the same place if not about 5-10mm further back, as i had to modifie the center of the crossmember, i just beat the bulkhead instead of cutting, ive compaired both engine placements and judging by the distance between the bulkhead and the itb trumpets there the same. not sure what the caracteristice will be like as this will be the first ae86 v8 with indipendant rear end. fingers crossed, he he Smile

True, everybody is looking at things in a different way. And, as you said, it will ba a track car, things like big power and good handling are pretty important Cool

ahh ok.. didnt really think you could beat it back that far.. he chopped a fair bit Smile

anyway josh loves his, he's actually building another right now.. (i sourced the diff for it actually Smile)

chopped up even more... will be running some pretty wide 17s, in quite a ridiculous offset...

anyway.. dont let me slow you down, seems like youre on a roll!

Good stuff, views taken in good spirit.
Wouldnt be my cup of tea but I can totally see where this build is comming from, its all about pushing boundaries esspecially in ae86 Ireland, SR20/VTECs common place on the Prodrift circuit it takes a bit of balls to go bigger/better.
Different cars are built for very different reasons, & I cant wait to see/hear this @ 45deg full on the rack to the stand at Mondello.

An 86 is for Life, not just for Christmas

Can I say maybe one reason the aev86's wouldnt snap back as sharply as a 4ag ae86 might be the fact that there is so much power going to the rear wheels, ie, less traction, your not on the edge of grip like you would be with a 4ag??? A 1uz would just be spinning up, maybe that would be a factor too....
obviously different dimensions and weight placements will affect it too but maybe not as much as you'd think,

I think too its perfect setup you have there, the s13 axle is heavier butd thats its good to match the 20kg heavier engine, and is independent so the unsprung weight is minimal. I should ask you about hints and tips then as i decide to make this rear axle conversion. Its definitelly an inprovement also for rally, hold lots of stres, better grip, cheaper diffs. I heard s15 helical fits in so this is other reason to make this conversion.

About the engine i am not sure, i want, its cheaper then 20v BT, i love high revvin V8, but the oficial registration to make it streetlegal costs fortune. I think its better to leave hachi as 4banger with only s13 rear end, and search for another well handling car that can adopt this engine (yes it is s13 Smile
