noise from engine bay
Hi folks,

not been around for a while as I've been a bit too busy at home

I took the cam out yesterday and it seems to have developed a high pitched whistling noise thats cooming from around the injection area.

I believe its a leak on the vacuum side but can't find it.

Anyone any ideas on what to check, how to check it. What can I spray around under there to identify where its a problem

thanks for the help in advance
cheers
Paul

put some washing up liquid around the gasket, if it starts bubbling anywhere, you should find the culprit.

Is it idling rough at all?

idling sometimes is a bit arratic... a bit lumpy is the best way to describe it

since you did the cam or before aswell? usually an eratic idle (mild seeking) is a vacuum leak. so do a bit of checking and see what you can find.

sorry for the confusion....need to get my wording right

Cam=car=Twincam ....Not camshaft in this case

Car is as left factory and is untouched apart for the belt being replaced by a local mechanic a year or so ago. Noise wasn't there until recent

I'll have a mess around under the bonnet with the washing up liquid and see what I can find

thanks for your help

If it is a vacuum leak, use a lot of soap, as you will need to watch
the exhaust pipe for bubbles Tongue

For a vacuum leak you should use "engine start" and spray it around
the manifold to see if the idle speed increases.

I did wonder why you had just taken out a cam Tongue

Make sure to check all your vacuum pipes for severance, the slightest cut on a pipe can cause problems, especially under acceleration.

Was it lumpy before the noise developed?

Tried the soap last weekend....no respose. Looks like I'll have to try some engine start and see if the revs increase
