Have you checked that there are no spacers, rust and other sh** inside the struthousing (under the insert)? I had washers there, rusted to the housing. Hard to see and hard to get out...
If I look at your pics, its a difference nut. Mine had a different seat for the insert (camfered inside and little camfer on outside) and I I think it was shorter (not so much material after the thread) but could be mistaking... I´d get it on a lathe and make it fit. Or you can try Toyota and buy the nut from AE92, cause thats what I think was used by the previous owner...
