Checking ring gear diff

RE: Checking ring gear diff
How bad is the whine ? Do pedestrians look round expecting
to see a fire engine as you approach ? If the gears look good
(no excessive wear or pitting) and the contact patch and
backlash have been set correctly, then the noise is annoying,
but not a sign that the diff is going to fail. Try using a heavier
weight specialist diff oil. Sometimes that will reduce the noise,
and sometimes the noise will improve as the parts wear into
eack other. So give the car some good hard driving Smile
