4A-GTE 7-rib smallport
Hey!

Researched the posibility to turbo a smallport but all the threads I found were about bigports or GZE engines. The higher compression of my smallport surely must make a difference.

I'm toying with the idea of putting a small turbo​ on my 4age (maybe 6-8 psi boost). I read that 7m-ge/gte injectors fit the 4age and provide more fuel than stock injectors. Will the stock smallport ECU handle the bigger injectors or would I need a piggyback/standalone?

Would the engine hold up with a small amount of boost or is it not an option on a stock smallport?

Everything you found about turbo conversion of bigports can applied to smallports. The higher CR makes a difference but if your tune is done right isn't it much of a problem.
This leads to the ECU. The stock ECU doesn't like boost so piggyback or standalone ECU would be needed. I would go standalone, not a fan of half assed piggyback setups Wink
7MGTE injectors do work like every others which are +300cc.

What about the stock ECU would be the issue? I know it's pretty stupid, but I want to do a turbo as kind of a budget upgrade!

The stock ECU isn't designed to handle positive manifold pressure nor to handle such big injectors thats why you should go the standalone route. And yes doing a Turbo setup on a budget is not the best idea Wink

It is probably the most cost effective way to gain power though!

Don't bother with stock ecu and anything but small upgrades. At the very least get a Megasquirt or even better a ECU Master. Nothing is cheap when you're tuning Wink
