Engine code
Ok I'm new to these '86 corollas (have an '86 corolla coupe) and I have been having a problem. The car starts up with a check engine light, after driving it it starts acting funny and dies off. This is frequent.
I have tried checking for codes, but I don't get it at first I have 4 blinking lights, then 7 blinking lights. If anyone can help, I appreciate it |

If you get different amounts of flashes each time, then the ECU is throwing multiple codes. Since it has a diagnostic mode, I'm assuming it's a 4AGE, you can find info about these in the factory manual which yuo can download from the main site at http://www.aeu86.org. It's best that you get that and read it through, try some of the fixes it suggests and ask the guys over here if you cant figure the problem out.

Ok well, I just checked the manual and I still don't get it, I don't see anywhere in the manual for 4 and 7 blinking lights, the closest I can get is 7 and 5 from the manual.

USA FSM states....
code 4 = open or short circuit in coolant temp sensor(front of engine... at water outlet) code 7 = open or short circuit in TPS signal likely the coolant sensor is decayed/broken or the connector wasn't connected TPS is a common fault. check it carefully using the FSM and reset it as per spec. Fixed the problem... kind of
But now I receive 11 flashes instead of 7 sorry for asking alot. |
