Removing brake dust covers?
Hey people,
I have a pretty lame question on my mind (as usual). Its a quite logical thing that the lower the unsprung weight is the "better" (please note the comma ), and we're talking every single grams here. Removing the disc brakes dust cover seems as a pretty good idea from this point of view(plus its quite simple and cheap). But the thing that worries me - is it "safe"? I dont have any expirience at all with this issue, and though Ive never heard of any damage caused by a small stone or whatever because of the cover was removed I can pretty easiely imagine something like that happening. Thanks a lot to everyone for help!! 86ers.org AE86 x GXE10 |

Same here,
did it and love it.. do keep in mind those things are there for a reason, the main reason for the covers is to keep ground water from splashing on your disks. Hot disk + loads of watter = to rapid cooling of the disks and they could get warped. Or so I've been told. Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

hachirokuGTV Wrote:don't the calipers mount to the dust cover? do you hace to cut them up or something?the dust covers are spot welded to the brackets that hold the caliper so yes, you need to cut them loose.... Greetz, Bastiaan "mux213" Olij Moved down under, no more hachi |

Use a chisel or sharp screwdriver and be a bit careful not to destroy them, in case you want to put them back on one day.
I need to put mine back temporarily to have the car engineered (a fancy MOT required for cars with specifications never commercially available in Australia) |
