Sick little Hachi
Hi all i am new to the website and have introduced myself in the newbie section...so hi to all,I bought in a JDM 1987 AE86 Toyota Corolla Coupe Levin it arrived friday, the car is in very good condition and has an AE92 engine fitted.

The mods are M's (k&n) factory induction kit, four branch manifold with decat pipe and full stainless system andTrd plug leads.Thats all i think that is done engine wise and i goes lke stink. On Tuesday after driving it for about two hours doing hard and slow driving it started to splutter as if it was misfiring also while doing this the engine check light and the catalyst over heat light came on at the same time( thought it might just have gotten to hot) .

Bought the car home and the next day i changed the plugs as old ones were bad.Put Denso plugs into it and it ran smoother, started it up and went driving.Again after two hours it started to do the same accept it was worse this time with the two dash lights mentioned above coming on and off more.Did the same thursday and friday, then today its now doing it from cold and the car just cuts out on idle and acts eratic when you try and drive it.Can anyone HELP Confused Confused

Thanks in advance.

I don't even think I have those lights on my hachi lol Big Grin

Beats me.. is the car cooling fine? engine temp good? Coolent levels good (the container looks full, but no garantee there is enough coolent in the radiator)? If engine is cooling good there is no reason to think the engine should be running to hot..

Is your catch can empty?

Hi Mux213,

The Temperature gauge has always been up aound half when driving the car after a while it never goes above it,there is coolant in the bottle and the radiator is at the right level. Is the Oil catch can meant to be full or empty??

Cheers for the quick relpy Smile

Maybe a stuffed catalyst or maybe a cat replacement pipe that is screwing up the ECU? Doesn't sound like a biggy.

A wheel to steer the front of the car
A pedal to steer the rear

Cab, oil catch can is ment to be empty but I doubt its your problem, just noticed you had one and its not impossible it might be causing problems but never heard of it actually doing something.

Nohachi probably is on a good track.

Sad Sad put the old plugs back in an car ran fine for 5 minutes, then back to spluttering and missing, engine check light and catalyst overheat light still coming on and off at same time.when i blip the throttle it enduces the problem. So you could say i can make it happen by giving the throttle a sharp blip at stand still of when it under any sort of load.....very depressed Crying

the sign you describe is from the dash of a gtv model. This gtv model has 8 warning signs in the dash. Standard hachi has 6!

It could be this sensor was not connected. It would look like either the o2 sensor or the cat! But i don't think you need to worry about either 2. Just check on the right side of the engine and under the car near the exhaust for a lose plug!

cab,

You mention you had a decat on it. Pardom my lack of terminology here but does that mean some sort of cat replacement or no catalitic converter at all?

I think nohachi was on the right track when he mentioned something in that area is going wrong, either whatever is there now is getting old/broken/whatever and is getting overly hot and the sensor over there is now sending bad signals to your ECU, or its the sensor itself that just sending wrong signals and throwing the ECU off. OFfcourse with the ECU making the wrong desisions your engine will not run correctly.

Probably when your engine is still cold (and thus the exhaust still cold) there is no problem yet.

But having a car myself without a cat or any sort of sensors on my exhaust I haven't got a clue how this is supposed to work so I can't comment on any way to diagnose this.. Hope one of the more technical guys wake up and give some info but I guess this thread hasn't caught their attention yet...

Hi Mux213,

Thanks for the help to you and all,Mux213 a de-cat pipe is a pipe that replaces's a catalyted converter in order to allow the exhaust breathe easier, the car now also does this problem straight away from cold.I have loked for a wire or sensor but can't see anything. The only thing i see is the lamda sensor in the 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.Does anyone know a good Hachi Roku mechanic over here in Ireland??

Big thanks again to all.
