TRD Damper inserts in front struts
Hi,
I like to install TRD dampers in the front struts. I can not fix them with the original nut. The inserts are not far enough in the strut (I think it's OK) or (after removing the seal in the nut) the original nut is too small to go over the insert (insert top diameter is 38mm, nut inner diameter is36). Do I need special nut for these inserts or modify myselve or.... Please check the pictures for more details As always, any advice is welcome |

Have you checked that there are no spacers, rust and other sh** inside the struthousing (under the insert)? I had washers there, rusted to the housing. Hard to see and hard to get out...
If I look at your pics, its a difference nut. Mine had a different seat for the insert (camfered inside and little camfer on outside) and I I think it was shorter (not so much material after the thread) but could be mistaking... I´d get it on a lathe and make it fit. Or you can try Toyota and buy the nut from AE92, cause thats what I think was used by the previous owner... Maybe this helps a little? 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

Hard to see and hard to get out... Thanks for your help. Inside of the strut looks OK: No rust etc. Struts were equiped with OEM inserts (gas filled) before dismantel, so the nut should be OE AE86. I'll check for AE92 nut. If not, I'll make it fit... |

Yes. The nut with the seal is the original OEM nut used with the open
style insert. To make it fit after removing the seal (seal not required) you can use a lathe to open the inside and leave a chamfer/bevel to help the nut centre the insert in the strut housing. That's what I did Cheers... jondee86 |
