Okay so there was somebody who asked about the Tacho signal but I cannot get anybody to confirm so please....

Can somebody help me this time around Tongue

I have this mad cool shift light and I Want it installed but I am a douchebag when it comes to modding etc.

I have 3 wires on the shift-light WHITE RED and BLACK

White is TACHO SIGNAL
red is 12v
black is ground I guess

Can somebody get me a picture from a Levin Coupe (1986)
WHERE I can get those 3 wires I need and can somebody direct me to them and maybe even make a picture...

Yes I know... I am stupid but I'd rather do it good then wrong...

(tach signal wire is ??? Black with orange stripe near ECU (but not connected to ECU) ???

Thanks in advance.

+B is 12v
Anywhere on the body will do for an earth.
Black with orange near ECU but not connected to ECU is Tacho signal.

You can look under the steering column all day, wont help.
The wire you need goes straight to the connectors at the bottom of your gauge cluster. You need to take out the plastic behind the light and wiper switch to reach it.

Look up which colour code the tach wire has and find the matching wire on the connector. Then splice into it with one of those blue thingy's you see in pic nr 1. Dont cut it and twist the wires together like a moron (sorry, needed to vent because my trueno's engine was wired in like this).

Find a sensible place to tap into 12v and ground as well.. preferably contact switched off course. Cant help you with any tips since I still need to figure this out for myself soon. Personally I'm against splicing into the wires directly behind the contact switch like many people do.

ivan, i.m.h.o. those blue thingies (scotchlocks or something like that) are just as bad as twisting the cables together! Tongue

Ok thanks man! Like I said I am an idiot with schematics... I always use those blue thingies myself and I find them very handy!

I thought I had to look under the steering column but I will try and look where you said Ivan!

Thank you!

Its the automotive standard though..better then soldering. You want one of these things and some heatshrink:

Twisted wires can sometimes work themselves loose...ask how we know Tongue

Yes, crimp connections are the best, but I doubt many people would bother with the investment in tools and such (I got a few from work I can use these days though).
@Thomas: Tacho signal is not something critical, so if the connection should fail it's no biggy. I much rather see these things then cut and twisted wires when I poke around a cars wire loom. These can easily be undone. Dont ask what they will do to longterm durability of the wire beneath it though, but you get that problem with many methods once you've removed the insulation.
