pedro-siR, the idea is to keep the parts from damage. When you hit the cone, the zip-tie will break, bumper will fall on the track and the worst thing that can happen will be some new paint on bumper and new zip-tie.

the idea behind zip ties breaking when hitting cones or other course obstacles to spare the aero from damage isn't necessarily true or a guaranteed "benefit". what more often than not happens is the zip tie remains affixed to the metal portion of the chassis while the aero is torn away from it. you're then left w/ a piece of aero with not just a hole from the zip tie but a tear akin to having your earing ripped from your ear...ouch! it was more pragmatic in its initial use and has more prevalently become the new fashionable method of affixing aero. i prefer clasps

I'd love to hear an opinion on this - after ripping the interior out of my beloved Trueno today i discovered the previous owner had left me a bit of a surprise - i knew the heater controls weren't working, but i never expected to see the whole console broken, held together by tape and zipties. Fair enough, i thought, but none of them is a good structural solution, being that they both bend and give way. Slightly pissed there. I don't mind the zipties holding the grill and bumpers, i'm planning on getting new ones when i grow up, gather money and -hopefully - get the car running the way i'd like it to...

i ended up using zip ties on my car... bumper was hanging, and I didn't like the way it looked.
