My ValveĀ“s sounds louder too after engine service, i use 10w-40 aral oil and bosh oil filter, the sound disappears when i rev up the engine, just in idle it sounds a bit bad.... Sad oil pressure is ok by the way

My valve sound is nearly zero when my engine is warm. When i rev there is no valve sound.

When i am idle and cold there is a lot of valve sound.

Fuel pressure is normal too.

Mine does a similar thing and I suspect it is piston slap as the noise goes away when the engine warms up, not too much of a problem I believe though Smile
If the engine has been re-built has someone fitted new rings into a worn bore ?
TVIS can also sometimes make this kind of noise.

[edit: Translation]
TE71 corolla also thinks it's most likely piston slap causing the problem.. it cant do much harm, but will use some oil. If it was a bearing it would grow worse with increasing engine temperature.

Adjusting the valve clearances on a 4AGE is not a
simple process like on a pushrod engine. You have
to measure the clearances correctly, then, if they are
out of tolerance, replace the shims that are sitting
on top of the valve lifters.

If the clearances were set correctly when the engine
was rebuilt, it is unlikely that they will be out of
tolerance after only 40,000 km. But by all means
check the clearances to be certain.

While you are in there, check the condition of your
cam belt tensioner idler bearing. I have had a tensioner
making a noc... noc... sound when the engine was idling.
It sounded exactly like a big end bearing knock, and
even had my mechanic fooled for a while.

BTW, a mechanic's stethoscope is handy for tracking
down mysterious noc... noc... sounds

Cheers.... jondee86

jondee

i think that this is something i had in mind (i'm talking about the cam belt) or something similar.

Thanks a lot for the remark
