What engine do I want in my AE86?
totta Crolla Wrote:So to summarise: That doesn't really seem much for the money spent on it though. Seems a bit of a waste IMO. I had 130 at the fly with over size pistons and a rebuild on standard timing. |

Why are ppl suggesting the 20v when you can get a 4agze for the same money with more power and its more fun!

I like the 20V because it is a 15 year newer 4AGE! Some extra power, good noise, nice response and fairly cheap compared to building a 16V with the same power. I like the reward thrasing an NA engine and it just suits the car better imo.
And a final note: 4AGZE looks awefull with all that plumbing compared to any 4AGE Sarcasme is just one of the things I offer Daily driver: '92 Toyota Carina E GTI Rebuilt project: '86 Levin hatch |

Maybe the Corolla engine bay is a bit minging then to put in a charger? It fits very nicely in the back of an MR2.

WOW... WARNING: Hip waders needed in this thread.....
Stock cams CAN NOT PULL to 7800 rpm... no way... no how... its just poo. Check your blacktop BEFORE you buy... they are known to produce a fair bit of sludge.... you are looking for compression numbers of at least 170, or higher... no more then 10 psi difference between cylinders Dan - You can | .... oldeskewltoy Wrote:WOW... WARNING: Hip waders needed in this thread..... Yeah but hes got auto ecu, that makes the cams pull hard as fuck Sorry but that just sonds like a load of bollocks, unless you got dynosheets to back this up. My rebuild 4AGE bluetop making 141hp on the flywheel, and thats on standard ECU with higher compression, ported head, airfilter/ martelius R1 and adjusted fuelpressure. The money spend on it was 1K for the rebuild and 400€ for the exhaust. chuck in a set of mild cams that run on the stock ecu and you should easily see 150/155 giving you more torque than a 20V. Ditch the fuel injection and put it on bike carbs with more agressive cams and you should see 160/170hp and that beats a 20V anytime and still (since it seems to be very imprtant for you) gives you some siiick induction noise, yo. I´ve driven a stock 20V on Omex 600 that made 163 on the flywheel but a shit torqueband, iirc the peak torque moves up 1200 rpm compared to a 16V. I therms of driveability Id choose the 16V over the 20V everytime. Be aware that a 20V bolts to the gearbox, and fit the enginemounts, but thats about it, all the rest will need to be modded and those waterkits are expensive, and unless you´re going standalone ECU, the dizzy relocation is expensive, too. 20V are NOT worth it, unless you can pick one up cheap for like 300€. 1979 Toyota Corolla KE35 1983 Toyota Corolla AE86 1985 Toyota Corolla AE86 |

I run a bigport 4age 16v with standalone ecu ,ae101 itbs, 260° / 252° 9.00 / 8.50mm cams , martelius r1 header and exhaust. all this made 153hp on flywheel.

Plenum is said to steal ~6 hp on the dyno. The converter was made for 116 hp in 1986 and got really hot!
