help, engine dies at startup - (56k Warning - SOLVED)

good luck, I'm sure it will turn out to be something easy since the car was running before you changed the HG. The only question I would have is why the HG broke in the first place. Simple old age, or as a result of another problem with your engine that you're now running into.

Anyways, give that girl of yours some 1st place priority, that indeed is important, cars will wait patiently for you, girls wont

haha she's #1 for sure - don't worry
I know loads about patience - my SX is waiting to be finished more then 3 years now and it'll be at least another one or two 'till it'll be driveable again (not finished as this is never going to happen with a race project)

the HG went down to mahoosive abuse by me on swiss mountain passes and by the previous owner on the ring so not that bad - I cleand the head of any casting marks as well so it'll be fine for some more trashing... I like cars but my mechanical sympathy is next to none existent as I like working on the car although I swear a lot when I need several hours for a 5min job just because some engineer was stoopid to think ahead that some bolts need to be replaced with the engine in situ...

Do you have the nockpins right ?


One time in the past i haven make a mistake and have both nockpins above.
No compresion on all of the cill

Hmm..the valves on the rightmost cilinder look a bit off compared to the rest.Almost like some coating has been burnt off, maybe it's just my imagination. Looks like you aligned everything just fine, although it's hard to tell with the distributor after it's been out.

I have look @ my spare 4age.Seems like that your timing camschafts is good.

compression is good (>12) again, checkd it after had reassembled everything
... sparks are good too fuel was ok when I took it apart... will check tomorrow...

@ae86 - how can I set ignition timing without the engine runnig at least rough?

when I try to start it trys to fire twice realy short and then dies

any more hints? will try a new set of plugs just in case - despite them being good...
